Charter

At Maitri Media & Design we want to take things in a new direction and consider an alternate business model. All this follows from a simple question - "what does it mean to do work with heart?" How would it change our experience if we saw the interconnectedness in all things? We've posted our charter to give you some insight into where we're coming from and what you can expect. As we learn and grow, we'll refine these touchstones and incorporate them into our working practices.

  • Cause no harm. We seek to do work that is ethical and promotes peace, health and balance. We will refrain from participating in work that causes harm to our clients, employees, community or environment. To help realize this goal, we offer discounted rates to artists, non-profits, local and state parks, historic and religious organizations.
  • Friendship and growth. Each opportunity to work together is an opportunity to grow together. Working with someone on a common project provides an excellent opportunity to get to know him or her. Strong connections are forged when working together. Many opportunities will arise to learn from one another. It is our goal to treat our partners as friends - not just associates.
  • Clear speech. We strive to be open and honest in all of our communication and interactions. Clear speech requires clear listening. We will strive to listen to your needs, work within your means, and communicate to you realistically about your project.
  • Being realistic. We won't promise you the moon and the stars, but we will strive to be realistic. We won't make promises we can't keep. We'll provide you with a realistic estimate and set realistic deadlines. We'll be fair and tell you what we know. We won't give you an unrealistic sales pitch just to get your business. If we can't do the work for you we'll try to refer you to someone who can.
  • Work as an exchange of energy. If we approach work with the mindset "I need" or "I must protect" or "I don't have enough", we act out of a diminished sense of self that views the world as a resource for our own gain. If we approach our interactions with the mindset "I have what I need", "we are equal" and ask "how can I be of service?" we can approach each experience with a sense of balance and equality. Since we are all interconnected, what I do for you, I do for myself. What I do to you, I do to myself.
  • Work with heart. Does the work, actions or speech honor our selves, our partners, and our community? Maybe it's legal, or maybe it's OK according to today's corporate standards. But work with heart asks us to dig a little deeper and look at things from a different angle. To be more fully engaged and alive in our work, we seek to bring ourselves more fully to our work - including our hearts.
  • Work as teacher. Every experience provides fertile ground for deeper understanding and further inquiry - both individually and in community. Working together can teach us many lessons about humility, patience, kindness, mindfulness and understanding. If we're willing to look honestly at ourselves, work can be a powerful teacher.
